Dim and Dimmer: The Bad News About CFLs Goes On (and on)

Surprise, surprise the many exhorbitant claims made for them are falling by the way side. (I just changed one in the home I have lived for after just one year! The box said it should last 'up to 10 years.)
Not only do CFLs contain mercury (a toxic) that means you get out of the room fast should you break one and not only can you not recycle with ease without incurring extra costs, but this latest study shows that they lose on average 22% of their brigthness over their lifetime.
Essentially, they start of dim ... and get steadily dimmer - much like the greens who think they are a good idea, of course.

Agreed! I've had some last less than a week! I'll never buy another one of those stupid things again!
I broke several of those bulbs when one of the hard plastic packages they come in fell from a shelf in my closet. At the time I didn't know they were so dangerous. I just threw them in the trash. Why is it that everything else in the world seems to have prominent warnings posted and dire disclosures recited in their television advertisements, but most people don't know those bulbs are an environmental and health nightmare?
I have already replaced a few of the bulbs, too (and before getting a heck of a lot less than 10 years use out of them).
