US Old Farmers Almaanac 2009 Predicts Colder Winter - And Global Cooling

Of course, it is not just the popular science and mass media that is hot on prophetic insight (if lousy on facts) but The Old Farmers Almanac -- which at least has a real stake in knowing -- predicts too. And they predict not only a colder 2008-9 winter, but global cooling over the next 50 years. Go here to USA Today for more.

cooler choice

Well I grew up on a farm and personally the old farmer's almanac has been more correct than the weather men and professionals. I now go to Penn State to study Aerospace Engineering and feel that we are not in a state of global warming. Many people are deceived by Al Gore's movie because he focuses on the points that help his opinion. If you do your research, you will discover along with the earth going through hot periods and ice ages, it has also changed its magnetic poles but has any of these professionals looked at this concept. No. In my opinion this is what is happening. We are not in a state of global warming but a state of global confusion.

So atmospheric CO2 doesn't warm the planet, right? Well thats interesting, because what's causing the planet to be warmer that -15˚ C? Because thats how cold it should be based purely on its distance from the sun and how much solar radiation we get. There are about 33˚ of heat that cannot be explained by milankovitch cycles or our distance from the sun. Do you know what allows us to survive here? Greenhouse gases! They're not a bad thing! No one wants to get rid of them! Without a certain amount of CO2, CH4, H2O, and other trace GHGs, the earth would be frozen solid. So that means that as you add CO2 to the atmosphere, the more IR radiation is trapped and re-radiated back to the earth! So if you keep adding CO2, you trap more heat. All of this garbage about it being the opposite process and high temps causing an increase in CO2 is just that--garbage. That doesn't make any sense at all. If anything, an increase in temp should lower carbon levels. Why? Higher temperatures lead to increased biological productivity--more plants=more photosynthesis and more carbon removed from the atm. People let political affiliations get in the way of common sense. Yes, a long time ago, CO2 levels were much higher than they were today. What is left out of this reasoning is that during this time, there was no ice on the poles, there were no humans, and the earth was covered in volcanoes that were erupting VERY often, which is what put that CO2 in the atm in the first place. Then, as the oceans formed, some of that CO2 began dissolving into the water. The first life forms then began to make their shells out of CO2, lowering the concentration in the ocean, causing more to dissolve from the atm--this is the key to humans being able to exist. The sequestering of carbon into these critters made it possible for O2 to accumulate in the atm to its eventual level. As for the CO2? When those ocean critters died, their shells sank to the bottom of the ocean and were buried with sediment--those shells decayed, and eventually became oil. This is how we have oil fields today. But now, we are pumping all of that carbon back into the atm to the point where our CO2 levels are higher than they have been in quite awhile--at least 600,000 years. Yes, people can know this. Ice cores in antarctica hold the key to the past, and little air bubbles trapped in that ice are analyzed to see what the concentration of CO2 was in the past.

It's not that difficult to suck up your pride and admit that something is wrong with our system.

Just because they predict cooling doesn't really mean anything. Global Warming may-or-may-not be a real thing, but can't we all agree that the air should be fresher and we should all at least recycle a little bit every once in a while.

The truth, which doesn't get one funding grants, is that we've just been through a period where the Sun was much more active than normal, and now that the Sun has been very quiet with very little sunspot activity (which means Sun is cooler) we see global average temperatures dropping. And consider that the earth's magnetic field has dropped 15% in the last 150 years, which means more radiation is let in especially *at the poles*.

As for green house gases, the most powerful greenhouse gas, with influence far outweighing levels of methane or CO2, is water vapor. We don't have the means to model that, and the useless spew coming forth from the climate modelers supercomputers in the last ten years first predicted more water vapor on average, then more drought, and now the current fad is to have drought in some areas but more water in others.....but of course reality is ever trashing the models as the books must be cooked and recooked to fit the facts.

Global warming will MAKE winters colder in some areas. People need to understand that when you melt huge quantities of ice at the pole, you chill the ocean currents, and that changes the weather. The result will be hotter summers and COLDER winters. This is not an even warming across the entire year, it is a rise in the AVERAGE temperature.

Do not let the dimwits who cannot understand the basic principles behind this lead you to think that a cold winter means the planet isn't warming.

There is nothing wrong with recouping resources by recycling.... There is nothing wrong with alternative fuel/energy sources... There is nothing wrong with wanting complete independence from foreign energy suppliers... There is nothing at all wrong with wanting cleaner, fresher, air to breathe.
